About
Maybe you recently experienced a big incident that shocked and alarmed you…
Perhaps you’ve been facing a series of difficulties that have built up over time and taken a toll on you mentally and physically…
You may have been reminded of an early childhood or life experience and that's bringing up a lot for you…
During these times, it’s understandable to feel heavy, overwhelmed or isolated and for our feelings to impact how we think about ourselves, how we show up in relationships, and the ways we cope.
If this resonates with you and you’re looking for a safe and supportive space to explore your experiences with care and intention, you’re in the right place.
My name is Mala Dorai, and I’m a therapist intern at Your Story Counselling. I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating stress and burnout, grief and loss, trauma-related experiences, identity and self-worth concerns, chronic pain or health-related anxiety, relationship and family dynamics, and experiences of neurodivergence, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, holistic, and gently structured, offering flexibility alongside a clear sense of direction.
I integrate somatic and polyvagal-informed approaches, cognitive and behavioural approaches (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT), and strengths-based and Adlerian-informed approaches to understand understand how stress, trauma and emotion show up in the body, explore patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviours, and clarify what matters most to you and the steps you can take towards the life you want to build.
My work is trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, and grounded in cultural humility.
I am currently completing a Master of Clinical Psychology degree in Psychotherapy at Adler Graduate Professional School. Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent over a decade working in the Canadian healthcare system and hold degrees in neuroscience and public health. I identify as a South Asian Canadian, heterosexual, immigrant woman, and offer therapy in English.
If you’re seeking thoughtful, compassionate support, I welcome you to reach out.
